Memory Reference Locality and Periodic Relocation inMain Memory
نویسندگان
چکیده
Memory reference locality is widely known to have an increasingly important eeect on the performance of algorithms. We demonstrate and explain why the performance of the binary tree search algorithm varies considerably depending on how the tree is laid out in the main memory. We present an algorithm which relocates a binary tree so that maximal performance can be achieved and discuss how updates degrade the locality of the tree.

An Implementation of Storage Management in Capability Environments
The exploitation of the salient features of capability-based addressing environments leads to a high number of small objects existing in memory at the same time. It is thus necessary to enhance the efficiency of the mechanisms for object relocation, and to avoid congestion of input/output devices due to swapping. In this paper, we present an approach to the management of a large virtual memory ...

and linked data structured) applications has led to a large number of research trends. Memory performance due to the cache misses in these applications continues to lag in terms of execution cycles as ever increasing CPU-Memory speed gap continues to grow. Sophisticated prefetcing techniques, data relocations, and multithreaded architec-tures have tried to address memory latency. These techniqu...
متن کاملCompiler Support for Reference Tracking in a Type-Safe DSM
The efficiency of language implementations is heavily influenced by the selected strategy for allocation and reclaim of memory. Memory allocation in a distributed shared memory (DSM) cluster poses additional challenges. Designing the DSM as a distributed heap is natural and relieves the application programmer from the burden of memory management. Garbage collection is incremental and refrains f...
متن کاملInteraction of sensory experience and age in spatial memory performances
During a critical period of postnatal age sensory experience has a profound effect on maturation of visual cortical wiring. Electrophysiological evidence is indicating a substantial effect of visual deprivation on the visual cortical response properties. In this study we evaluated effect of light deprivation during a limited time of postnatal age on two aspects of spatial (working and reference...
